In this half-day workshop, you will get hands-on experience with practical essential surgical skills on high quality models to prepare you for being a registrar. In addition, it presents an excellent opportunity to speak to consultants about career pathways and training. 

Attendees will choose one specialty-specific session, each guided by two consultants. Sessions on offer for each specialty are: 

Urology:  

  • Management of haematuria and clot retention

  • Flexible cystoscopy and difficult IDC insertion

Neurosurgery: 

  • Management of closed head injury

  • Insertion of EVD/ICP monitor

 Colorectal 

  • Lower abdominal pain

  • How to perform a bowel anastomosis

Upper GI: 

  • Upper abdominal pain

  • How to do a bowel anastomosis

Plastic surgery 

  • Plastic surgery emergencies (what to wake your boss for!)

  • Microsurgical suturing and tendon repairs

Orthopaedics 

  • Management of simple fractures in ED

  • Plastering of long bone fractures

Open to medical students, interns, residents, unaccredited registrars 

Cost: $50 residents, $25 students
