St Vincent’s Pre SET Society Presents:

GSSE Preparation Course

The Generic Surgical Sciences Exam (GSSE) is a prerequisite exam for all applications to SET training. Its primary components consist of foundational knowledge in anatomy, physiology and pathology. With few courses available to guide study, pre-SET doctors have historically found the physiology and pathology components of the exam most challenging to prepare for.

The St Vincent’s Pre-SET Surgical Society has designed a two-day intensive online education program targeted at preparing candidates for these most difficult components of the exam. Lectures are focused on high-yield exam topics in physiology, pathology, immunology, statistics and pharmacology, taught by experienced lecturers at SVHM and the University of Melbourne who are familiar with the GSSE exam structure and style of questions. Although aimed at pre-SET doctors sitting the upcoming GSSE, the foundational science topics covered has meant that many medical students, interns, and residents  pursuing critical care, radiology and medical specialties also find it useful in their studies.

Our course was the first of its kind in Victoria and 2024 will be the 10th consecutive year we have been able to offer it. We are continuing the online lecture format, which has allowed for both participants and lecturers to get involved from all around Victoria, interstate, and even overseas! In 2024, we aim to continue to deliver two courses - in March and July whilst taking the feedback from our past participants on board with more practice exam questions and exam focused material.

In recognition of its value, our course is now in its early stages of attaining Royal Australasian College of Surgeons accreditation.

Our next GSSE Course will be run in March 2025. Ticket links will be available here closer to the date.
