St Vincent’s Pre-SET Society Presents

Weekly Lecture Series

In 2024, Pre-SET will be continuing the Weekly HMO Education Series. This consists of concise and high-yield tutorials and workshops held on Wednesday evenings, aimed at improving the surgical and peri-operative knowledge and skills of Pre-SET doctors. Specifically, these tutorials will cover investigation and management of both common and serious surgical conditions, as well as the essentials of anaesthetics and perioperative medicine, as well as basic essential surgical skills. This ties in with Pre-SET’s aim to assist St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne to be the premier Pre-SET hospital in the state.

The sessions are run by St Vincent’s surgical registrars, fellows and consultants in a didactic and interactive case-based discussion format. The 2024 teaching sessions will be held in-person where possible, with hybrid Zoom formats where appropriate to ensure those on external rotations are also able to participate. Details of the teaching sessions will be published on our WhatsApp group, Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/SVMPSSS), our website (https://www.svhmpresetpathway.com/) and via regular emails. Hands-on workshops will also occur throughout the year.

The weekly HMO teaching sessions are made possible by senior surgeons and trainees who volunteer their time and knowledge, and aim to prepare residents to become competent registrars; it is therefore an expectation that our pre-SET surgical HMOs attend as many sessions as possible.
