St Vincent’s Pre-SET Society: Education

Weekly Lecture Series

In 2024, Pre-SET will be continuing the Weekly HMO Education Series. This consists of concise and high-yield tutorials and workshops held on Wednesday evenings, aimed at improving the surgical and peri-operative knowledge and skills of Pre-SET doctors. Specifically, these tutorials will cover investigation and management of both common and serious surgical conditions, as well as the essentials of anaesthetics and perioperative medicine, as well as basic essential surgical skills. This ties in with Pre-SET’s aim to assist St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne to be the premier Pre-SET hospital in the state.

GSSE Preparation Course

The Generic Surgical Sciences Exam (GSSE) is a prerequisite exam for all applications to SET training. Its primary components consist of foundational knowledge in anatomy, physiology and pathology. With few courses available to guide study, pre-SET doctors have historically found the physiology and pathology components of the exam most challenging to prepare for. The pre-SE T Society runs this program targeting this crucial areas to help with preparation.
