The Generic Surgical Sciences Exam (GSSE) is a prerequisite exam for all applications to SET training. Its primary
components consist of foundational knowledge in anatomy, physiology and pathology. With few courses
available to guide study, pre-SET doctors have historically found the physiology and pathology components of
the exam most challenging to prepare for.
The St Vincent’s Pre-SET Surgical Society has designed a two-day intensive education program targeted at
preparing candidates for these most difficult components of the exam. Lectures are focused on high-yield
exam topics, and taught by experienced lecturers who are familiar with the GSSE exam structure and style of
questions. Over the years of running this course, we have refined our course material and design, as well as
attracted participants from all around Australia. In recognition of its value, our course is now in its early stages
of attaining Royal Australasian College of Surgeons accreditation.
This July session will be held on 17th and 18th July in a hybrid format with Zoom and in-person attendnace facilitated.
